This year Liverpool Pax Christi’s Ash Wednesday service focused on the campaign to abolish Trident. The photos below are used courtesy of John Usher.
Liverpool Pax Christi – Ash Wednesday Service, focusing on Trident
On Wednesday 18th February, beginning at 11:45am outside News from Nowhere, Liverpool Pax Christi will hold a procession and vigil through the streets of Liverpool. This will culminate at 12:45 at the Queen Elizabeth Law Courts, Derby Square.
People of all religious faiths and none are welcome to join Pax Christi and Merseyside C.N.D. to show your opposition to nuclear weapons.
Wrap Up Trident mass demonstration
Today Merseyside CND members joined thousands to protest in London with a huge scarf to call on the Government to “wrap up” the Trident nuclear missiles programme.
The pink-coloured scarf, knitted by people across the world, was wrapped around the Ministry of Defence building in central London as part of the demonstration.
Wrap Up Trident!

After the 2015 general election, MPs will vote to make a final decision on replacing the Trident – the UK’s Cold War nuclear weapons system.
We have to send a clear message to MPs: Trident must be scrapped, not replaced.
On Saturday 24th January we will be encircling government and parliament buildings with a peace scarf knitted by thousands of people.
Join us for a mass protest against government plans to spend £100 billion replacing Trident!
Let’s meet people’s real needs. Cut Trident – not jobs, health or education.
