Liverpool Environment Summit

Quaker Meeting House
School Lane
1pm – 5pm 30 November

FREE ENTRY

Liverpool Green Party is hosting Environmental Summit where Liverpool’s environmental groups can meet, discuss key local environmental issues, and plan coordinated action to get Liverpool moving in the right direction.
The recent IPCC report highlights in the strongest terms yet the scientific certainty that humans are causing global warming and urges rapid action to reduce carbon emission. With this backdrop the city of Liverpool is taking backwards steps, such as closing bus lanes and selling off public open space for development.

There are many groups working for the good of the environment in Liverpool. Whether that is through awareness-raising, practical hands on projects or political campaigning, these groups all share a vision of a healthy, thriving city responding positively to the challenge of building a sustainable future.

This summit will address the fact that joined up action between these groups has often been patchy and seek ways to work more closely in the future. The Green Party has a role, within the wider movement, to create a credible electoral challenge, capable of deterring the city’s leadership from continuing along its current path. We want to hear from other groups how to make that challenge more effective.

The meeting will also discuss other ways for the environmental movement to create pressure. It is recognised that charities and campaign groups will want to retain their party political neutrality. We want to encourage participation from as many different groups as possible, so please let me know what you think of the proposal and what you think needs to be on the agenda.

Please circulate this around any friends or groups that you think will be interested.
