MCND Co-Chair, Barbara Hardcastle, speaks in support of National Health Service staff at the NHS anniversary protest. The money this government plans to squander on another generation of nuclear weapons must be spent on vital public services!

All our local councils have declared a climate emergency, as has Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. What must they do to convert ‘green intentions’ into workable plans and a culture that will drastically drop our greenhouse gas emissions?

Speakers Professor John Whitelegg Professor Whitelegg was appointed Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Integrated Transport in 2020, working on the decarbonisation of transport. Among his other roles, he is visiting professor, School of the Built Environment, Liverpool John Moores University; he was formerly Head of Geography at Lancaster University and a staff member of the Stockholm Environment Institute. He served as a Green Party member of Lancaster City Council (2003-11) and was a North West candidate for the European Parliament in 2004. He is now based mainly in Sweden.

Cllr Laura Robertson-Collins Laura Robertson-Collins was appointed Liverpool City Council’s ‘Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability’ – a new position created when the Council made its ‘climate emergency declaration’ in July 2019. In April this year, she resigned in protests at the concerned by the Highways Committee’s proposal to remove all cross-city centre bus services from Lime Street, saying that this will impede future attempts to provide a fully integrated public transport system in Liverpool. She has recently marked her tenth anniversary as a Labour councillor for Greenbank ward.

The debate will be chaired by Dr Hilary Russell Dr Hilary Russell is a retired Professor of Urban Policy in Liverpool John Moores University. Her main focus was on urban regeneration and neighbourhood renewal. She has also had longstanding involvement in the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector and is currently Chair of Feeding Liverpool.SHOW MORE
