In October last year President Donald Trump announced America’s withdrawal from the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia. Signed in 1987 after years of worldwide protest against the escalation of tensions between East and West, including the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp, the I.N.F banned nuclear missiles with ranges of 500km – 1500km and ended a standoff which brought the world to the brink of nuclear annihilation.
What took so long to achieve is set to be unraveled with the stroke of Donald Trump’s pen.
We must once again stand together and campaign against a possible nuclear escalation, and the UK government must also play its part to settle the crisis through diplomatic means.
We’ve already taken thousands of your letters to the Foreign Office, and we’ll be stepping up the campaign in 2019.
Members of Merseyside CND, Liverpool Pax Christi and other peace activists gathered in St. John’s Garden to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. A big thank you to John Usher for the photos below.
