Images from yesterday’s street stall in Liverpool for the Global Nuclear Ban. A big thank you to all those who signed the petition to make nuclear weapons a thing of the past!
Climate change is one of the main threats the world faces today.
The hands of the infamous Doomsday Clock now stand at just two minutes to midnight. They have never been closer. The atomic scientists who set the clock agree we face two existential threats: nuclear war and climate change – and the risk of disaster has never been greater.
Urgent action is needed but our government continues to prioritise war and weapons over the future of our planet.
XR Peace Rebellion
This is why CND has joined XR Peace – a coalition of organisations for peace and justice. As XR Peace, we will be holding one of the sites in the October Rebellion. This is a coming together of movements to resist the twin threats of nuclear weapons and the climate emergency. Join us between October 7th-18th as we take part in the rebellion.
XR Peace supporters will be blockading an area on the Embankment in London. If you would like to join the blockade, please bring a chair, piece of carpet, or anything to sit on while you’re in the road.
While the blockade is ongoing, there will be a series of speakers and workshops between 10am-12 noon and 2pm-4pm each day. Full line-up to be published soon.
If you want to get involved or if you have any enquiries, please contact information@cnduk.org or phone 020 7700 2393
All across the world people gathered for the Global Climate Strike, including here in Liverpool. In the words of activist Greta Thunberg, ” For way too long, the politicians and the people in power have gotten away with not doing anything at all to fight the climate crisis and the ecological crisis, but we will make sure that they will not get away with it any longer.
We have gathered today because we have chosen which path we want to take, and now we are waiting for the others to follow our example. We will never stop fighting for this planet, for our futures, and for the futures of our children and grandchildren. “
